Glass Houses of Texas HS Football

Taken from post found at:  http://thewatchful-eye.com/news/california-hoops-coach-arrested-for-sadistic-abuse-of-his-own-players/

On September 28, 2012 WFAA Channel 8 ran a story questioning the recruiting tactics by South Oak Cliff High School Head Football Coach Emmit Jones after Coach Jones was accused of making contact with several Cedar Hill ISD football players. The South Oak Cliff High School Head Football Coach was the subject of a District 11-4A Executive Committee Hearing following a Complaint lodged by Cedar Hill school Athletic Director Gina Farmer and Head Football Coach Joey McGuire who claimed that the South Oak Cliff High School Football Coach had recruited two football players who resided in the Cedar Hill ISD School District.

A copy of the News 8 article was posted on the webpage of The Watchful-eye with A Caveat taken from a song by  the R &B group called the Temptations who had a song entitled, ” Glass House” for which the lyrics were ” If You Are Living In a Glass House Don’t Throw No Stones,” words the Athletic Department at Cedar Hill should have taken to heart themselves  with regards to representatives of Cedar Hill ISD’s Athletic Department’s attempt to point the finger at the Coaches from South Oak Cliff High School, while Cedar Hill ISD’s own Head Football Coach Joey McGuire made yearly payments to his star  running back Laquvionte Gonzalez in the form of cash, gifts, electronics, meals and much more.

In an interview with Guardian Ireshia Brown in October 2012 the subject of payments being made by Cedar Hill ISD Head Football Coach Joey McGuire to running back Laquvionte Gonzalez was first reported to The Watchful-eye.  According to Ms Brown the payments to the star football player began as earliest as his freshmen year, and lasted until the student Gonzalez moved out of her home in July 2012 due to rebellion by the teenager.

Appointed guardian of Laquvionte Gonzalez by a Juvenile Judge Ms Brown was made the sole authority figure in the student’s life, with the legal rights to make decisions on the behalf of the minor student Laquvionte Gonzalez as far as the law was concerned.

Ms Brown gave accounts where Head Football Coach Joey McGuire would make visits to her home in Cedar Hill, Texas and made regular payments to the star athlete Gonzales despite knowing such actions were possible violation of UIL rules, and regulations. According Ms Brown the Head Coach spoke in secret code initially pertaining to paying made to the star athletes, but later became comfortable in his distributions of money to Laquvionte Gonzalez. Ms Brown also described how the Head Football Coach would give envelopes containing cash payments ranges from eighty to two-hundred dollars in her presence to Laquvionte Gonzalez, and also how the running back  mentioned having to go to the Cedar Hill High School Campus to pick up money from the Head Football Coach.

Not only did  the Cedar Hill Head Football Coach give the star running back cash payments for playing football, he shelled out cash for a citation the student received while driving without a license, a tux for prom, and a cell phone so, McGuire could keep up with the star athlete who was often late for practice.

Ms Brown stated that she have in our possession phone messages from the Cedar Hill ISD Head Coach detailing  a purchase of a cell phone bill payment  for the star athlete, and well as other conversations she held with the Head Coach where the topic discussed was in reference to payments made to Laquvionte Gonzalez.

When confronted with the question of whether Head Coach Joey McGuire was acting as a mentor to the troubled youth by simply giving him what many in the circle called walking around money, the guardian quickly pointed to the fact that there were other members of the team who had financial problems, and the Head Coach never lifted a finger to help to the other players who were in need of financial help.

Several other sources including players past and present shared stories about the head football coach, and how he would tip the athletes off as to when drug testing for banned substances such as anabolic steroids would be conducted on the high school campus as a way of ensuring that his players stayed on the field.

It appears that Cedar Hill ISD Coach Joey McGuire’s actions are just one of many examples of an athletic program operating with no administrative control. Numerous of incidents in the past years have pointed to a lack of institutional control within the Cedar Hill Athletic Program starting with claims of assaults of several minority children of the school district at the hands of the coaches, such as an assault of a special education student by Defensive Coordinator Steven Lemely following an Halloween outing of seniors in 2011, to the assault of two female students by baseball coach Jonathan Mullins that took place in his class room.  In both cases involved coaches, and the Cedar Hill ISD took measures to cover up the details of the incidents, and no former criminal charges were brought against the members of the Cedar Hill Athletic Staff.

Despite calling for disciplinary actions with regards to the out of control behaviors of coaches in Cedar Hill ISD Athletic Department, Athletic Director Gina Farmer appears to be helpless, and unable to manage the 5A Athletic Department. When confronted with issues regarding members of her coach’s staff Director Farmer has chosen abdicated her authority to Head Football Coach Joey McGuire who is often the root of the problems within the athletic department.
While pointing the finger at South Oak Cliff High School for possible recruiting violations it appeals that the Cedar Hill ISD Athletic Department has some real problems of its own that may lead to a possible investigation by the University interscholastic League (UIL), or the NCAA for possible violations which could lead to the forfeiture of games played, or forfeiture of armature status of the student athlete is question should a possible investigation give rise from the details of this story.

It appears that the actions taken by Cedar Hill ISD Athletic Director Gina Farmer, and Head Varsity Football Coach Joey McGuire could be seen as nothing but hypocrisy since all evidence seems to indicate that both parties who filed the complaint against South Oak Cliff High School have been living is glass houses for some time now, and The Watchful-eye is on his way with a pocket full of stones!
